The monodrama The Major and Helena is an author’s project by Aleksa Jovčić, following the motifs from Maja Bečkić Petrović, dramatized by Divna Stojanov and produced by Theatre Change and Oblak Production. The play has been created according to the real-life story of Helena Vuković, a former Serbian Army major and trans-woman. The monodrama is a stage reproduction of her life, beginning with the initial feeling of being a girl, and not a boy in a very patriarchal family, continuing with the attempt to suppress the person’s identity in a conservative society, ending with the current peace of mind, when she physically became what she always was – a woman.

How much courage does it take to be what we really and truly are in a conservative society?
